I♥AMAZINGRACE

Hello people!
First and foremost, i would like to introduce myself and my partner in crime! Haha.
My name is Feezah and Humairah is my partner.
We are from Secondary 5b. Now we were going to tell you about our adventures journey that had been extremely exciting and challeging for us. And that will be the Amazing Race! Soooo, do not go anywhere and enjoy reading readers!

Two weeks ago, our AAM (Achieve and Anspire Mentorship) mentors had organised an Amazing Race for our Graduating students for secondary 4 Express and secondary 5. Before we begin, we would like to tell you guys a bit of what is Amazing Race is all about. ( For those who do not know. Haha)

An Amazing Race is a competition whereby teams race on foot to various locations. Contestants strive to reach the locations or commonly known as 'Pit stop' first before any other competing teams. The first team to arrive at the final leg will receive a prize. During the course of the race, team will receive clues and instructions to a task that they must complete, after which they will be given clue that points to the next destination. Isnt that AMAZING?

For our Amazing Race, the student involved were divided into groups of ten. We were not allowed to choose our team members but instead, were allocated teams randomly. At first, we were abit sad due to the fact that we got seperated from our friends. Futhermore, it will be an AWKWARD situation where, we were in a group with the people we do not know much. HOWEVER, we got to know each other after that and frankly, we get the hang of it. HAHA!

all were seperated into ten groups.
Our departure point was at the school assembly hall of madrasah Aljunied. We were all raring to go but we were given an initial task to complete first before we were given the clue to our first destination. The task required to name the five 'Sahabah's of our prophet Rasulullah. We managed to answer all five of the prophet's Companions, but with a little help from teams who had already figured out the answer ahead of us.

Once the next clue to the next destination revealed to us, we dashed off to Marang Road, home to the iconic Mount Faber Park. This destination is located in the vicinity of Harborfront where we travelled to by train.

The first task that we had to accomplish was climbing up a long flight of stairs. We were daunted by the endless steps that laid right before our eyes. We were initially apprehensive as to whether we would be able to complete this task. However, with sheer determination and encouragement from fellow team members, in the end, we managed to climb the flight of stairs and felt extremely relieved despite the exhaustion and fatigue. We felt foolish for doubting ourselves at the start of the challenge. We try to make up for lost time by answering the given crossword puzzle on the history of Islam as fast as we could.

The next location revealed was a stone throw away from Mount Faber Park. We were instructed to proceed to the magnificent architectural structure, Henderson Wave. Towering over 36 meter above Henderson Road and stretching out to 274 meters long, it is currently Singapore`s highest pedestrian bridge. With its distinctive and artistic wave-like structure, it was only natural that we could not resist taking pictures atop the bridge. The picturesque surrounding serve as our backdrop when we snapped away photographs after photographs. We also had a group shot taken as a keepsake from this entire experience. We completed our next activities before setting off the subsequent destination.

HYPER KIDS. HAHA!

We made our way to Terrace Garden where our next pit stop was. There, we were required to name a particular continent on a given map. We were also asked to state a country and state within that continent. Since this task was a group effort, we had to take turns to answer as many continents, countries or states as possible. Luckily for us, one of our team members was well-versed in Geography. even though he learnt it from watching only football matches. HAHA! (come to think of it, since when football matches are so useful eh? ) He was able to help us out and thus giving our group a chance to close up the time gap between our group and the rival teams ahead of us.

Our next pit stop was at Hort Park. Here, we were given a hands-on activity whereby in our teams, the boys and girls were seperated and we were given 1 sheet of paper that looks like this. The only different was that, there are no numbers and words are written on that paper.

we had to identify the longitudes and latitudes of various places on a world map. Thanks to the girls from Secondary 4 in our team, we managed to do it smoothly.
Even though we had finished the given task, we were not able to move off to the last destination in the race. The overcast gloomy clouds in the sky warned us of an impending heavy downpour. We were stranded at Hort Park for a little while as the rain gushed out from the dark pregnated clouds, like cats and dogs. However, not for long, An uncle was driving a tram, and he gave us a ride. THANK YOU UNCLE!

After a while, the rain had subsided, we made our way to the last pit stop. On our way there, we bumped into a couple of rival teams in the bus that we took. Which indicated we were not far behind in the race and also we had to hurry up to get to the final pit stop before our rival groups does. It is VERY DEPRESSING as our rivals was in the same bus. After arriving at the final destination, that was at NUS, we all quickly got out from the bus. Some did not even tapped their ez-link cards. (okay, it was me. -.-) LOL.

We ran like crazy! Eventually, we ran ahead of them to reach the checkpoint first thus, emerging FOURTH in the entire race! YAYYY!~
And our rival group that are on the same bus with us, is on the 5th place. Haha.
Even though we did not managed to win, i am still happy because we had so much fun playing this Amazing Race as a group. I would like to say thanks to the enthusiasms of this people (on the picture above) Without them, we maybe would not make it in the top five. :D
THANK YOU!

This entire experience had taught us many valuable lessons that had helped us accomplish and overcome the challenges during the race. From the race, we learnt the importance of cooperation and teamwork. Through this race, we have also gained a wide a amount of knowledge and experiences. I feel VERY fortunate to be able to learn about things beyond the textbook in a fun and interactive way.
